Hi,
My name is Julie, but most call me Jules.
I was diagnosed with Lupus SLE in 2012, and spent way too much time on Prednisone & Methotrexate, in order to get my auto immune under control with my Rheumatologists.
The weight gain was well – lets go with substantial, and my fitness level severely affected.
I was suffering from intense lower back pain and longed to be able to walk and move and be active with my children, even standing up straight was excruciating. Not knowing what was causing the pain.
I EVENTUALLY listened to some sound advice and went to see an amazing chiropractor, who helped me gently and diligently.
The X-Rays showed that there was lumbarisation of S1, moderate disc space narrowing at L5-S1, along with facet joint arthrosis. Mild narrowing was also noted at the L1-2 and L2-3 levels and Moderate L5-S1 degenerative changes.
After weekly visits to the Chiro, and no more back pain, I was referred to an amazing Pilates instructor, who helped me build core strength and find joy in being able to move confidently again. It was through my journey and the amazing life changing benefits that I came to respect and appreciate how good Pilates is for your body and mind.
I have qualified through the Pilates Academy in Cape Town and have been teaching since January 2020. I am inspired daily by my wonderful clients who are committed to finding their own joy in being able to move again, and constantly reminding me that anything is possible if you are determined enough.
If you are thinking about Pilates and want to learn about your body, be surprised by yourself and what you can achieve, or just need some “Me time” come and join our fun classes where you are able to meet some amazing people and get to move your body.
CAUTION: Side effects of Pilates include important stuff like;
correcting poor posture
increasing your range of motion
helping you understand why certain moves are more challenging for you
increased muscle tone and strength throughout the body
enhanced muscular control
improved stabilization of your body.
eyerolling and laughs
Pilates focuses on developing dynamic strength, which means you are better able to support and stabilize your joints while moving. Pilates can improve your mood as physical activity causes endorphins to be released and causes a positive feeling in the body.
Looking forward to teaching you soon.
Jules
